About Centrist
New Zealand’s central hub for news and debate
Curating the stories that matter
Founded in 2023, Centrist is a free online New Zealand news platform focused on curating the political stories and policy debates that matter when it comes time to vote. We link to and summarise reporting from mainstream, independent and alternative media, helping readers stay informed without having to scan dozens of sites each day.
Centrist presents under-served perspectives and prioritises reason-based analysis. Our goal is to save readers time, challenge assumptions and strengthen democratic scrutiny across New Zealand politics and current affairs.
What we do
- Inform New Zealanders on major policy issues
- Distil broad news sources with clarity
- Present competing arguments fairly
- Support journalism that holds power to account
- Strengthen democratic culture
We are independent and not affiliated with any political party.
